Paperworks opened last weekend at the Craft Folk Art Museum. This is one of the hidden treasure spaces in LA, located directly across from the Tar Pits and LACMA with easy parking.

Howard Fox curated this exhibit. I have never seen so many paper artists in one space that individually touched me.

Susan Sironi’s hollow/hallow books (below left) create a unique reading experience and reinterpretation of the narrative. Styled to a single letter printed in an obsolete font. Sironi “subtracts” the novel to its core and displays it in plexiglass boxes. She reinterprets story through her art.

Echiko Ohira (below right) is a kraft paper goddess that evokes accessible magic and initiates the viewer into her “biomorphic” world.

Enrique Castrejon reminds me of Egon Schiele’s art.

Chris Natrop shapes a dangerous enchantment out of mylar.

And as for Phranc’s art (above), I don’t think I need to say a single word. Enjoy the show.
