I started my masters in writing at Antioch University when our first child was under a year old, and completed my Pedagogy in the Art of Writing when our second was three. This was made possible by the flexibility of low-residency study and mentors who guided me into a successful writing career.

These days I enjoy the occasional opportunity to lecture at Antioch’s residencies and support their community by working with students, so I was happy to sit down recently with MFA student Jenna Ray to talk about my writing career and my alma mater, the last bastion for the humanities and a true liberal college. I hope you enjoy our conversation that merges academia with the creative.
